How I Started Learning Kendo
I started learning kendo in late 2019, I was first introduced to it by my co-partner in entrepreneurship and mentor, Sam. He has reached 5 dan (a grading system for kendo)and he also runs a dojo.
Change of Plans
I went to the dojo in the morning two times each week practicing for two hours each day, this lasted for about three months. But then because of the pandemic, I started practicing from home.
Moving to Qingdao
In mid-2020, my family and I moved from Beijing to Qingdao. I still go back to the dojo in Beijing every month or so, to work on entrepreneurship and practice also kendo. In September of 2020, I went back to Beijing for a week-long training session to prepare for a Kyu test that was coming up in Tianjin. Kyu is also part of the kendo grading system, I got 5 kyu on the test. I will continue practicing and my goal now is reaching 1 kyu.
For me, practicing kendo both keeps me healthy and also helps me think more clearly. And I am glad to take part in it.
